Rock Chick Redemption - Rock Chick #3 - Kristen Ashley
Sum up: (Goodreads)
Roxie’s on the run from a bad boyfriend who will not catch the hint that it is o-v-e-r. She’s in no mood for love at first sight, but when her eyes fall on Hank, it’s trouble from the get-go. Roxie tries to hold Hank at arms length but Hank wants to be a closer (as in, a lot closer). Roxie’s trouble catches up with her and Hank wants to help but Roxie knows in her heart that she’s no good for a white hat guy. The problem is no one agrees with her, especially her crazy hippie best friend Annette or her parents; the even crazier small-Indiana-town Herb and Trish. Toss into the mix the gang from Rock Chick and Rock Chick Rescue and Roxie finds herself totally outnumbered.
Climb in for another Rock Chick wild ride through Rock Chick Redemption. As the odds stack up against Roxie, she has no choice but to hold on and just ride it out through the kidnappings, car chases, society parties, a riot at the strip club, Hank getting “Mom Bombed” and one crazy night at the Haunted House.
During all this Hank works at convincing her she really wants to stay and he, along with the Hot Bunch, go all out to make her safe. Hank also needs to work on showing Roxie that her past decisions don’t mean her future can’t include something as downright delicious as… normal.
Plot:
Meet Roxane Gisele Logan, also known as Roxie. She has been in a relationship with Billy for over seven years but as things turned badly she tried to leave him - that was three years ago. Billy is the typical bad guy! He forced Roxanne to move from cities to cities and when she finally decides that she had had enough, he threatened her. Love turned to fear and Roxanne tried her best to flee but he always found his way back to her.
With Annette's help - who is Roxanne's colleague and one of her closest friend, she runs away to her uncle... Tex (yes, Tex, THE Tex, the crazy Tex) in Denver. For her, it is only a temporary stop. At least, that's what she thought...
Sitting on the couches, all drinking coffee, were a bunch of men. Not just any men. It looked like GQ was having a convention and all the best looking guys had decided to have a coffee at Fortnum's before going to seminars on how to cope with being really, unbelievably, fucking gorgeous.
[...| it was only the one with whisky-colored eyes that got my attention. They were all looking at me, but the minute my eyes hit Whisky, I felt light-headed and had to stand stock still or I'd haven fallen over in a dead faint.
Yup, this is love at first sight, my little lambs, with Hank Nightingale. Remember Hank Nightingale? You know it is Lee's brother and a police officer. He sees Roxie and he knows that he will stop at nothing to make her his.
"It starts now."He also recognizes when a woman is in danger. And in danger Roxie is! Between a stalker, violent ex-boyfriend, kidnappings, car chases... She cannot catch a breath! Her only objective is to be finally free from her ex-boyfriend and it certainly is not to fall in love with a hot detective, especially since she also thinks that she is not good enough for him. She wants to end things with him, even set him up with some girlfriends. But he knows what he wants and even Roxie will not stop him.
"What starts now?"
"You and me."
"Listen, Whisky, I'm here to see my uncle, then, I'm gone."[...]"Sweetheart," he said in a low voice, "You were here to see your uncle until you stepped into Fortnum's and saw me and I saw you. You know it and I know it. You want me to convince you. I'm prepared to do that."Yowza.
Opinion:
I felt like Jet and Eddie's story was a bot boring in the meaning that Jet was kind of getting on my nerves from time to time but I LOVED Hank and Roxie's story. Who could have known that Hank could be so romantic? In the previous books we only glimpses of him and he sounded like a good cop, a good brother, a good friend... He sounded almost boring. BUT. HE. WAS. NOT! I fell in love with him right away.
I also liked that for the first time in three book, the female character was not afraid to "admit her feelings".
If I thought I couldn't breathe before, I was wrong.Whisky's smile was so damn good, it made me forget how to breathe entirely.
Roxie found that Hank was hot and she did not back away (straight away). She was funny, completely crazy (I mean, Tex is her uncle) and she was so adorable.
Her mum is just like her. I liked how Kristen Ashley depicted Roxie's parents. It felt like Roxie and Hank older. Trish is crazy and Herb is very protective. Their arguments were just so funny!
I really did feel their chemistry from the beginning. Maybe I felt it less for Jet and Eddie. But here you could not deny that the two of them were hot together. Even when other guys were trying out their luck. In every book, there is a kind of love triangle setting up. This time it was Hank/Roxie/Luke.
Oh! And I forgot to tell you that Daisy was back!!! How I love this woman! She is so funny and so into it and so sparkly! I want to be her so badly!
Needless to say, I loved this book! Hank is one of my favorite. I think he even topped his brother, Lee. Roxie lacks confidence but she is also too weak to resist Hank and it did not feel too much like for Jet. Anyway, trust me, you're going to love it!
Excerpts:
It was like Fortnum's was For Gorgeous People Only.
They needed a sign so normal people wouldn't wander in unwittingly and develop immediate inferiority complexes.
It was true, these Denver boys did not fuck around.
"Indy was livin' with Lee after 'bout a day. Jet was with Eddie from my count, after less than a week. The way Hank's look in' at you, I'm guessin' less than forty-eight hours."
