Ce jour-là, à la réunion du conseil de Cuelebre Enterprises, un siège est vide. Celui de Tricks, la porte-parole de la société et l'une des plus célèbres personnalités des Anciens.
Quelques jours plus tôt, on apprenait que Tricks était en réalité Niniane Lorelle, la fille de feu Rhian, le roi des Faes noires. L'héritière du trône, au coeur de toutes les convoitises, est portée disparue depuis la nuit dernière. Seul indice : une vidéo amateur de son agression dans une ruelle de Chicago. Tiago, seigneur de la guerre et puissant oiseau-tonerre, part sur ses traces. Il la retrouvera, même s'il doit y laisser son coeur.

Dans le tome précédent Le Baiser du Dragon, Dragos avait fait exécuter Urien, le roi illégitime des faes noires. Trick délaisse son poste de chargée de relations publication chez Cuelebre Entreprises et endosse la responsabilité qu'est celle de reine des faes noires. En effet, Urien avait fait assassiner sa famille afin d'accéder au trône, mais elle était parvenue à s'échapper et à trouver refuge auprès de Dragos. Mais il est désormais l'heure pour elle de délaisser cette vie. Elle reprend son véritable prénom - Niniane - et rend public son statut d'héritière à la presse. Elle pensait que le plus dur serait de parvenir à imposer son statut aux autres faes, mais c'était sans compter sur les tentatives d'assassinat et d'enlèvement des partisans d'Urien.

Avis :

Je ne connaissais pas beaucoup le personnage de Tiago. Il était brièvement mentionné dans le premier tome, mais sans aller plus loin. Clairement, il est le personnage qui rend le livre potable.

Je trouve cela dommage que l'auteure ne se soit intéressée qu'au début de la relation de Tiago et Niniane et ne soit pas allée plus loin. Il aurait été bien de savoir si Tiago et Niniane seront acceptés par les faes noires et de voir l'impact que cela aura sur leur relation. 

Ce livre manquait un peu d'actions et était trop répétitif sur bien des aspects, notamment sur la relation entre Tiago et Niniane. C'était un pas en avant et deux en arrière. 

Cependant, l'univers que Thea Harrison a créé reste magique avec les fonctionnements de chaque espèce. J'ai beaucoup apprécié en connaître un peu plus sur les faes noires. J'aurais adoré en connaître plus sur l'espèce de Tiago : l'oiseau-tonnerre. 

J'avoue que la lecture de ce second tome a mis un frein à la poursuite de la série. Je ne suis pas encore sûre de vouloir continuer avec le tome 3, même si les personages de Carling et Rune m'intriguent.

A New York, Pia Govanni, mi-humaine, mi-dragonne, a été choisie pour une mission ultra-dangereuse : dérober un élément du trésor de Dragos Cuelebre. Il est le chef incontesté des Wyrs, le dragon le plus redoutable au monde. Simple pion dans la guerre qui oppose le roi des Faes noires à Dragos, Pia sait pertinnement qu'elle devra subir la fureur de la ténébreuse créature. Car Dragos est à ses trousses, et il la retrouve en territoire elfique. Mais aucun des deux ne s'attendait à ce qu'une telle alchimie se révèle entre eux.

Bienvenue dans un monde où les humains vivent en harmonie avec des espèces surnaturelles (vampires, wyr, faes...) dans des villes telles que New-York, mais les espèces surnaturelles ont également accès à d'autres contrées qui recèlent de magie. 

Pia est une jeune femme mi-humaine mi-wyr qui a été surprotégée tout au long de sa vie par sa mère. Lorsque cette dernière décède, elle fait jurer à sa fille de vivre avec prudence et de ne jamais révéler ce qu'elle sait faire, ni de dévoiler son vrai nom (car oui, les noms ont une grande importance chez les wyrs). Malheureusement, après le décès de sa mère, Pia enchaîne les désastres amoureux et son ex, justement, lui fait du chantage afin qu'elle pénètre dans l'antre du Dragon - appelé Dragos (original, je sais !) - afin d'y dérober un objet. Personne avant elle n'avait jamais réussi cet exploit. Et surtout, personne n'en était jamais sorti vivant. Lorsque Dragos découvre qu'un de ses trésors a disparu, sa rage ne connaît aucune limite et Pia a intérêt à décamper le plus vite possible... 

Mais tout ne va pas se passer comme prévu... 

Evie is a bonafide nerd and a hyper-intelligent chick who has worked her whole life to get what she wants. Growing up, she had no support from her family and has only ever been able to rely on herself. So when Evie decides she wants to earn her engineering degree, she realizes she needs to take an alternative path to get there. She takes a job dancing at Smithie's club thinking this would be a quick side gig, where she can make the money she needs. But with her lack of dancing skills and an alpha bad boy who becomes overly protective, Evie realizes this might not be as easy as she thought.

Daniel "Mag" Magnusson knows a thing or two about pain, but the mask he wears is excellent. No one can tell that this good-looking, quick-witted, and roguish guy has deep-seated issues. Mag puts on a funny-guy routine so he can hide his broken heart and PTSD. But when Evie dances her way into Mag's life, he realizes that he needs to come face-to-face with the demons of his past if he wants a future with her.

Lottie has a new hobby: she is adamant that she can pair up her "girls" with every man in Mo's team. Thus she sets up a blind date between Evangeline and Daniel.

Evangeline is a shy strip-teaser who has wants to go to university as soon as she has enough money.

Daniel has been a manwhore ever since his last girlfriend broke up with him. Having a "commando" job makes it hard to find a woman who could take him as he is.

But when their first date turns up to be a disaster because of a deadbeat brother who endangers his sister and Evie's apartment getting trashed, Mag knows he has to step up if he wants to have a future with Evie...

Where to start with this book? You all know how much I love Kristen Ashley. So yes, her storylines are usually quite repetitive. Why is that?

• First, the woman probably releases four books a year. She is a machine. So you should probably cut her some slacks. Have you ever tried writing one book? Then try writing several books a year. Yes, it is her job but still... at some point, you lack imagination or motivation maybe.
• Secondly, alpha males and strong women in danger are her signature. Why change when it works perfectly?

Depuis son plus jeune âge, Stella a l’habitude de tout contrôler. Surtout à l’hôpital, où ses poumons défaillants l’envoient régulièrement. Traitement, régime, suivi médical, rien n’échappe à son organisation.

Tout l’inverse de Will, qui n’attend qu’une chose : avoir dix-huit ans, sortir d’ici et vivre enfin. Ils n’ont rien en commun, en dehors de leur maladie, celle-là même qui leur impose une distance de trois pas à tout instant.

Peut-on vraiment aimer quelqu’un sans jamais l’approcher ?

Stella et Poe sont meilleurs amis depuis des années. Et ils se sont rencontrés à l'hôpital. Tous deux sont atteints de mucoviscidose. L'hôpital est leur deuxième maison. Puis un jour arrive Will. Un autre adolescent atteint d'une forme de mucoviscidose plus agressive appelée b.cepacia.

Stella, d'abord insensible à ses charmes et ses flatteries, apprend à connaître Will et comprend qu'il y a plus derrière ce visage que des beaux traits. Mais les deux ont un rapport bien différent à la maladie. Quand Stella se bat pour survivre, Will ne pense qu'à se laisser mourir.

Stella, pourra-t-elle aider Will ? Mais surtout, pourront-ils avoir une chance quand la montre est contre eux ?

Vous l'aurez compris, ce livre s'inscrit dans la lignée de Nos Étoiles Contraires par John Green. Mais il échoue là où John Green a réussi : mélanger pathos et humour. À cinq pieds de toi tire sur la corde sensible mais il ne parvient à toucher le lecteur que par moment assez disparate, notamment lors du décès d'un personnage (ce n'est pas vraiment un spoiler quand on sait que nos personnages sont atteints d'une maladie incurable !)

Cependant, il faut rendre à l'auteure ce qui appartient à l'auteure, elle a réussi à renseigner et à sensibiliser sur cette maladie appelée la mucoviscidose qui tue à un très jeune âge (à moins d'une greffe). Comment rester insensible à la souffrance des personnages ? Les séances continues avec le gilet, la prise de médicaments incessante, mais surtout ce sentiment de solitude face à la maladie. D'autant plus quand on doit respecter une distance avec les autres. Beaucoup de discussions autour de la véracité des propos autour de cette maladie. N'étant pas experte, je ne saurais dire si les informations de l'auteure était exactes ou non.

J'ai apprécié avoir les points de vue de Stella et Will tout au long du livre. Cela apporte également deux points de vue différents sur la maladie et le rapport à la mort. Stella est la jeune fille presque parfaite. Elle prend ses médicaments en temps et en heure, elle ne rechigne pas pendant ses séances avec le gilet, elle est appréciée de tout le monde... Elle a même créé une application sur smartphone pour aider les autres patients atteints de mucoviscidose. Petite star de YouTube, elle sensibilise le public à sa maladie. Sa priorité est sa survie pour le bien de sa famille.
Will, quant à lui, est le garçon rebelle qui veut mourir en ses termes : wild and free. Il n'en fait qu'à sa tête. Atteint d'une mucoviscidose plus sévère - b.cepacia, il sait qu'il ne pourra jamais recevoir de greffe. Sa mère l'emmène donc parcourir les hôpitaux du monde pour trouver une cure à sa maladie.

Et quand Stella rencontre Will, c'est l'explosion. Pas d'étoile, mais plutôt une différence de personnalités. Et pourtant, ils vont se compléter et s'entraider. Stella va faire prendre conscience à Will que sa vie vaut la peine d'être vécue, même avec sa maladie. Will va aider Stella à lâcher prise et vivre.

”Nous nous sourions et, au moment où je la regarde, même si je sais que, pour un milliard de raisons, je ne le devrais pas, je sens que je suis en train de tomber amoureux.”

Puis on va rencontrer Poe, le meilleur ami de Stella. Le meilleur ami que tout le monde aimerait avoir. Drôle et mature, il craint de s'attacher et tomber amoureux avec sa maladie.

Au final, on se prend d'affection pour les personnages secondaires :

• La mère de Will qui cherche par tous les moyens de sauver la vie de son fils,
• Les aides soignantes qui essaient de ne pas prendre trop à coeur chaque patient atteint de mucoviscidose 
• Les parents de Stella qui sont complètement perdus face à leur lourd passé et se déchirent. 

"Donc, après tout ce que la mucoviscidose m'a pris, nous a pris, c'est à mon tour de lui prendre quelque chose."Elle montre la queue de billard d'un air de défi, luttant pour chacun d'entre nous." Je vais lui prendre cinquante centimètres, un demi-mètre. Un foutu pas d'écart, de distance, d'espace."Je la fixe, en admiration totale."La mucovisidose ne me volera plus rien. Désomrais, c'est moi la voleuse."

Mais j'ai eu beaucoup plus de mal avec Stella qui est beaucoup trop rigide. Je ne suis absolument pas parvenue à m'identifier à ce personnage. Elle est même venue à m'agacer par moment.

J'ai aussi trouvé que l'histoire a mis longtemps à se mettre en place. J'ai failli abandonner vers la moitié. Heureusement la deuxième partie est devenue plus intéressante, tant sur l'évolution de la relation entre Will et Stella que sur l'évolution des personnages en eux-mêmes. Et j'ai beaucoup aimé la fin. Déchirante, certes, mais presque belle je trouve.

"Nous avons besoin de toucher ceux que nous aimons presque autant que de respirer. Je n’avais jamais mesuré l’importance de ce contact, de son contact.. avant d’en être privée."

En bref, si vous avez aimé Nos Étoiles Contraires, ce livre est pour vous. Cependant, ne vous attendez pas à une histoire qui puisse rivaliser.

But in the end, Lottie and Mo don’t only have to find some way to keep hands off until the threat is over, they have to negotiate the overprotective Hot Bunch, Lottie’s crazy stepdad, Tex, Mo’s crew of frat-boy commandos, not to mention his nutty sisters.

All before Lottie finally gets her Dream Man.

And Mo can lay claim to his Dream Girl.

Lottie (for those who do not remember Lottie, she is Jet's sister starred in "Rock Chick Rescue") is a very successful stripper. She loves her life. She is not ashamed of her job and neither will she apologize for who she is. But seeing all the "Rock chicks" meeting their "dream men", Lottie is feeling lonely and she is set on having a baby by herself. But it is not her most urgent problem. A creepy stalker is making threats. Smithie being Smithie, he decides to call in Hawk's commando and hence Mo meets Lottie.

And when these two meet, chemistry is off the roof... 

So by now you probably know that I am a sucker for everything Kristen Ashley releases. And this one did not disappoint. Even though it is a "novella", trust me when I say it is long enough to be a solid 253-pages book.

There isn't much action in this book since I felt like it was mostly installing the Dream Team series. But we were still graced with hot steam moments between Lottie and Mo. I mean, I just fell in love with both of them.

“I make you mine, officially,” he continued, “no one ever has you again, Lottie, but me.”

Lottie is a woman I'd love to be: self-assured, strong, smart, savvy, beautiful, sassy. She is such a gorgeous woman, almost perfect, with so much love to give but she has no one (yet) to give it to. Enter Mo. (sigh). He is perfect in all his imperfections. Mo has been raised by an amazing woman (which explains why he is close to perfection) with four sisters, so he kind of understands women (or at least he tries his best). He is not much of a talker but he is a total observer. He had been in service and brought back internal scars that never fully healed.
From the beginning, you could tell they belonged to each other. They completely balance each other's personality. Mo is very quiet (hence the title) while Lottie is super cheerful and talkative and they just fell for each other at first sight.

“She’s under your skin,” Hawk murmured.“She’s not under my skin. I sleep on her couch. I guard her. But when this is over, she’ll be in my life. My choice? For the rest of it. So that’s not under my skin. She’s just going to be a part of me.”

Their love story was cute, perfect and so much fun. I laughed... a lot. I can't wait to have more of this "Dream Team". I also loved getting glimpses of Jet, Eddie and their kids. So cute, my heart couldn't take it!

“Mistake number one.He watched her dance.Mistake number two.He left her sightline when she was exposed and needed to know he had her.Mistake number three.He let it slip his mind she was tangled up with the Rock Chicks.Mistake number four.He also forgot her stepfather was a lunatic.”

Anyway, you probably understood that if you are a fan of Kristen Ashley as much as I am, this one is also for you. You have everything you need: alpha male, gorgeous girl, hot scenes, danger... Less action than in her other books but I am sure she will come back with more of it in the second book of the series.

Certaines scènes contiennent des scènes violentes qui peuvent heurter la sensibilité des lecteurs.

Bienvenue dans le lycée d'Opportunity en Alabama ! Ici, on vit une vie bien tranquille. Autrement dit, il ne s'y passe rien. On y aspire à quitter la ville ou au contraire, y rester et y fonder sa famille. Tout le monde se connaît, mais surtout tout le monde a ses secrets.

Nous suivons le destin de quatre personnages : Claire, Tomas, Autumn et Sylvia lors d'une journée au lycée - qui semble - banale. On commence la journée par le petit discours de la principale, une heure de colle ou des tours de terrain. Mais à 10h04, tout s'arrête. Tyler entre dans l'auditorium avec une arme chargée, verrouille les portes et il fait feu.

"Aujourd'hui vous m'appartenez tous.Aujourd'hui vous allez m'écouter."

J'avais déjà repéré ce livre avant mon départ en Australie, mais je m'étais retrouvée à court de temps pour l'acheter et le lire. Quelle n'était pas ma chance quand je l'ai trouvé d'occasion. Je l'ai de suite commencé et maintenant j'essaie de faire une chronique à chaud, mais c'est difficile. Mes émotions vont à tout va et je n'arrive pas à mettre des mots sur tout ce que j'ai pu ressentir : de l'effroi à la surprise, de la tristesse à la haine en passant par le désespoir... Je pense que tout y passe ! J'ai du reposer le livre à plusieurs reprises parce que c'était trop. Trop de violence, trop de voyeurisme quant à ces événements qui se produisent sans cesse, c'était juste trop ! On ne ressort pas indemne de cette lecture.

L'auteure a choisi de narrer cette histoire à travers les yeux de quatre personnages différents qui ont tous un lien avec Tyler : Autumn, sa petite soeur, Sylvia, la petite amie d'Autumn, Tomas, le frère hyper-protecteur de Sylvia et Claire, l'ex petite amie de Tyler. Pendant ces 54 minutes, on halète avec eux. Chaque page voit un des personnages prendre la parole. On en découvre plus sur leurs vies, mais surtout sur leurs mésaventures. Car aucun d'entre eux n'a eu une vie facile :

     - Autumn est une homosexuelle cachée qui a perdu sa mère et goûté plusieurs fois au poing de son père alcoolique. Elle ne vit que pour la danse et sa copine Sylvia. Mais elle sait qu'Opportunity ne les acceptera jamais et son frère fait tout pour les empêcher d'être ensemble. Alors son rêve, c'est de partir. Partir loin. Même si cela veut dire qu'elle pourrait perdre Sylvia.

     - Sylvia voit sa mère perdre son combat contre - ce que l'on suppose être - l'Alzheimer. Elle est la seule fille d'une fratrie de cinq. Je ne souhaite pas tout vous spoiler et je vais juste dire qu'elle porte de nombreux secrets dont l'un ne nous est révélé qu'à la fin (même si on s'en doute un peu depuis le début).

     - Tomas se fait passer pour le dernier de la classe et pourtant, il aspire à plus. Mais personne ne croit en lui. Sylvia, c'est un peu la prunelle de ses yeux mais aussi de la famille. Si lui ne peut suivre ses rêves, il fera en sorte que Sylvia puisse.

     - Claire se cherche encore. Sa soeur Tracy s'est engagée dans l'armée et elle a toujours su qu'elle se dirigerait aussi dans cette carrière. Mais elle est remplie de doutes. Et puis il y a Matt, son petit frère atteint du lupus. Qui veillerait sur lui quand elle ne sera plus là? Pour le moment, elle court parce que c'est la seule chose qu'elle connaît et qui la reproche de Chris, son meilleur ami.

     - Et puis il y a Tyler. Je ne sais pas comment traiter ce personnage. Même si on ressent une certaine haine et un certain dégoût pour ce qu'il a fait et sa manière de penser, je ne peux m'empêcher de me sentir mal pour lui. À travers les flashbacks d'Autumn, on comprend qu'il n'a toujours voulu qu'être près de ses amis et de sa famille et il s'est perdu en cours de route. Des fois je me dis que peut-être une décision prise différemment par l'un des quatre personnages aurait pu changer la donne. Non que je reporte la faute, hein ! C'est un être abject pour avoir abattu trente-neuf personnes, mais je ne peux m'empêcher d'avoir un pincement au coeur pour ce personnage. On ressent sa souffrance et son désespoir de ne pas savoir comment agir pour faire changer les choses.

Autumn et Sylvia sont toutes les deux prisonnières dans l'auditorium pendant que Tomas et Claire sont à l'extérieur. Chacun essaie de comprendre la situation. Ainsi le livre est rythmé de manière assez différente. Avec Autumn et Sylvia, nous sommes plongés dans l'horreur des événements de l'auditorium alors qu'avec Tomas et Claire, on ressent l'impuissance. D'abord ils ne sont pas sûrs de ce qui se passe et ensuite, quand ils comprennent, il n'y a rien qu'ils puissent faire.

L'auteure réussit à nous faire passer pour des voyeurs. On ne veut pas forcément savoir les événements qui vont arriver et pourtant, on veut quand même savoir. Qui va mourir? qui va survivre?  Elle a si bien transcrit les sautes d'humeur de Tyler qu'on ne sait jamais quand un coup va partir. Par moment, je me sentais presque mal à l'aise de lire parce que je me suis dit que ce sont des choses qui arrivent malheureusement trop souvent. Combien de fois en avons-nous entendu parler des tueries dans les lycées américains? Je me demandais si les survivants avaient vraiment ressenti tout cela, comment ont-ils pu se remettre de telles choses...? Je n'arrêtais pas de réfléchir tant cette histoire est hyper-réaliste. Ce sont 54 minutes qui semblent s'étirer pour durer une éternité.

Ce livre m'a mis la boule au ventre, m'a donné des palpitations et m'a fait verser plus de larmes que n'importe quel final de The Vampire Diaries. Même si on se doute légèrement de la fin de l'histoire, on a peur pour tous nos protagonistes et leurs familles et amis. On a juste envie que toute cette horreur se finit. On ne peut pas souffler, pas même une minute.

Les seuls reproches que je ferais à ce livre sont cette fin un peu précipitée et j'aurais aimé que l'auteure creuse un peu plus les émotions et les histoires de chaque personnage. Par moment je sentais comme si elle ne faisait que gratter un peu la surface.

Je ne peux pas dire que j'ai adoré le livre car c'est un de ces livres qui demande à être compris et digéré et qui nous affecte énormément. Mais je conseille sincèrement ce livre à toutes les personnes qui s'en sentent capables. Il se lit rapidement tant on veut savoir ce qui va se passer.

Bracken Slater hasn't had it easy since the shooting that killed his whole family and left him injured.  Saying that he is changed and a bit damaged is an understatement. He only lived for revenge but when he exacts revenge, he is left with nothing but a void in his heart and a coldness that leave him wondering about his place in his pack.

Madisyn Drake is an independent woman who works in a shifters shelter. She helps loners to relocate. Unfortunately, one of her relocated loner brings troubles on her doorstep. While she was "enjoying" herself in a nightclub, she ends up being cornered by three female bears. Even though she manages to get the upper hand, she knows it is only the beginning. And because she is Makenna's friend, she is also under Mercury's protection and Bracken is on her case.

Barely after dropping her home, he realizes there's more to Madisyn than what she shows. Before he gets the chance to explore it, he gets carjacked. Just as Bracken is about to lose consciousness, he feels the mating bond pulling at him... with Madisyn. Maybe he has now found a new purpose? But convincing her that he wants her for who she is will be more complicated than he anticipates. Add some angry bears who have a beef against Madisyn and Bracken is in for some excitement... and us too!

I am a bit biased regarding Suzanne Wright. I love everything she does. I read pretty much all her books. I love her Mercury and Phoenix packs series. Even though the stories are a bit similar, I just fell in love with every character and every couple. I am so not ready to ever say goodbye to her series.

We met Bracken and Madisyn in the previous books but nothing had ever happened between them and nothing hinted that anything could've happened and yet, it did happen. And it was explosive. Their mating was much different than any other meeting. We knew from the beginning that they were mates and so did they. However, the mating bond did not click straight away. Being a pallas cat also means that Madisyn doesn't trust easily and Bracken has changed a lot.

Bracken is much more intense than any other males in any of these series. He is cold and full of anger. But never with Madisyn. Never with her. With her he is super sexy, super protective, honest and yet, a real romantic. I just fell madly in love with him. He embraced what happened to him. He did not fight his demons but rather embraced them.

I loved how fierce and protective Madisyn is. She does not comply to anything: pack, hierarchy, mate... She does not care for it. If people cannot take her as she is, she doesn't want to be part of their lives. And I loved her for it. I totally have a crush on her. She is just amazing and strong-headed. Forget about damsel in distress because she is no princess. I want to be her, haha!

There are lots of actions in this book. Madisyn knows how to attract ennemies.  The only thing I struggled with is Madisyn's animal: a pallas cat. I didn't know what it was until I looked it up... and I was quite surprised and a bit taken aback. The more I read, the more I got used to it and tt was funny how Suzanne Wright played with the grumpy side of her cat but still... I really don't think pallas cats are appealing in any way (sorry, not sorry).

And of course, we got to see our favorite former couples!!! I was so happy. The other negative point is I feel like Suzanne Wright is including all the former couples in her new books and yet, I feel like these couples are not going on with their lives. Nothing major is happening to any of them, which frustrates me a bit. But otherwise, I can't say anything bad about a Suzanne Wright's book.

My only piece of advice is to read it. RIGHT. NOW. It is just amazing! But you should definitely read the other books of the series beforehand. They are really easy to read and they are also amazing!

Lors de sa tentative de fuite, elle rencontre des Chasseurs d'Ombres du nom de Jem et Will qui vont lui porter secours. Ils la ramènent à l'Institut où elle y découvre un tout nouveau monde. Mais le danger rôde toujours et des alliances sont tissées : Tessa accepte d'apporter son aide aux Nephilims en échange de leur aide pour retrouver son frère.

Mais tout ne va pas se dérouler comme prévu... 

J'ai un aveu à vous faire : il m'a fallu longtemps pour commencer cette série car la série The Mortal Instruments de Cassandra Clare m'avait laissé un goût assez amer. J'avais adoré les trois premiers tomes et détesté les derniers. Je crois même ne pas avoir fini la série. Je trouvais que l'histoire n'avait ni queue ni tête et partait en ridicule. J'y suis donc allée à reculons pour celle-là. Et pourtant... j'ai beaucoup apprécié cette lecture. Je ne dirais pas que c'était un coup de coeur, mais la lecture était divertissante. J'espère juste que mon sentiment tiendra sur la longueur de cette série.
J'ai adoré redécouvrir le monde des Chasseurs d'Ombres à travers les yeux de Tessa. On le connaissait déjà dans les premiers tomes de TMI et pourtant, je n'avais pas l'impression de revoir quelque chose que je connaissais déjà. On redécouvre ce monde en même temps que Tessa. 

J'ai aussi beaucoup aimé l'époque dans le récit. J'ai trouvé que c'était - peut-être pas nouveau - mais cela ajoute de l'originalité. Il faut reconnaître que l'auteure a fait une vraie recherche en amont pour tenter de faire correspondre l'époque et le récit. J'ai adoré être propulsée dans une époque complètement différente, même si je dois avouer que mon côté féministe a été légèrement froissé par certaines remarques de Tessa et de Jessamine (mais c'était une autre époque, donc j'en ai fait fi). Par ailleurs, j'ai trouvé très intéressant les différents points de vue des femmes sur leur position dans la société de l'époque. Jessamine suit une vision plus traditionnelle de la femme avec un respect pour les traditions (eh oui, les femmes ne sont faites que pour satisfaire les besoins de leur mari et avoir des enfants - ô joie !) et Charlotte suit une vision plus moderne et veut une certaine égalité entre les hommes et les femmes (du moins sur le terrain et au sein de l'Institut). À son arrivée dans l'Institut, Tessa suivait elle aussi la tradition, mais plus elle passe de temps au sein des Chasseurs d'Ombres, plus sa vision des choses évolue. 

Ensuite, j'ai adoré les rebondissements. Dès le début, nous sommes plongés dans l'action avec l'enlèvement et l'entraînement (ou torture, au choix) de Tessa aux mains des Soeurs Noires. J'ai été tenue en haleine tout le long du roman. Et surtout, je suis tombée sur les fesses lors des révélations  faites à la fin. Et comme chaque livre qui promet une confrontation, il faut prévoir une boîte de mouchoirs (juste au cas où).

La romance n'a pas une grande part dans ce roman. On sent que Cassandra Clare laisse la porte ouverte à plusieurs romances possibles, mais elles ne sont que survolées ici, ce qui est positif ou négatif (au choix selon vos affinités).

En parlant de négatif, il est temps de parler des personnages  qui m'ont énervée en beauté ! Procédons au cas par cas : 

     - James est franchement trop mou et niais, notamment au début. Alors oui, plus on en apprend sur lui, plus on compatit et on le voit sous un autre jour, donc ça lisse un peu ce côté trop niais. On pensait voir les choses en noir ou en blanc, mais il nous a ajouté cette nuance de gris. Mais il n'y a pas que du négatif en James, j'ai appris à aimer son côté calme et posé. 

     - Jessamine... alors Jessamine, il y aurait tant de choses à dire, mais je ne dirai que ceci : elle n'est rien d'autre qu'une peste en puissance et j'ai juste hâte qu'elle soit renvoyée. 

   - J'ai beaucoup entendu parler de William (les joies de lire un livre un siècle après les autres). J'attendais beaucoup de lui, et quelle déception ! William n'est rien d'autre qu'un mec insolent qui ne se soucie que de sa personne et ne sait pas ce qu'il veut. Il a soi-disant un passé qui le fait agir de la sorte, mais je suis désolée, la pilule ne passe quand même pas avec moi.
     - Charlotte, c'est simple, elle n'a aucune personnalité.

     - Henry est un personnage qui pourrait tout aussi bien ne pas être dans le livre, et ça n'altèrerait en rien l'histoire. Il n'en a rien à faire des autres également. Le pire est qu'il n'aide jamais Charlotte alors qu'il voit à quel point elle a du mal à gérer le Conseil. Sa femme s'en prend plein la tronche de la part de tout le monde et il ne fait rien pour l'aider. Hallucinant ! J'avoue que je ne comprends pas non plus le couple Charlotte/Henry. Quelle utilité? Pourquoi? M'enfin !
     - Sophie... je vais lui laisser sa chance car je ne l'ai pas trop comprise pour le moment.
    - Je dirais que pour le moment, Tessa est la seule que j'ai appris à apprécier. Elle est courageuse, elle ne s'apitoie par sur son sort, elle a de la répartie et elle sait faire face à tous les défis.  J'aimerais juste que son personnage soit plus développé pour qu'elle devienne encore plus forte et indépendante. Elle est encore naïve pour le moment étant donné qu'elle vient de débarquer dans le monde des Créatures Obscurs. 

     - Et maintenant, parlons DU personnage tant attendu... MAGNUS BANE ! Argh !!! J'ai du me retenir de lâcher un petit cri quand Magnus est apparu. J'étais si heureuse de le revoir ! Quel dommage que ce soit pour une scène aussi courte ! 

Et cette fin... cette fin... argh ! J'ai hâte de commencer le deux.

Oh my! I was kind of preparing myself for this one. I knew it would be emotionally intense. And yet, I was not prepared enough. I am not even sure to know where to start. This book was long, I am not going to lie. However I read it in barely three days because I couldn't put it down. Be ready for some actions with battles on battles on battles! (alright, I have to admit that sometimes it was a bit long to read but anyway) Such an emotional rollercoaster, honestly! So many things happening with so many different characters and yet, it’s all linked. 

Let's start with Aelin because obviously everyone wants to know what happened to her after the awful ending of Empire of Storms. Aelin has been tortured for months at the hands of Maeve and Cairn. The torture is not only physical but also psychological. When Sarah J. Maas describes the tortures Aelin went through, it is most definitely hard to read about it. I would advise against reading this book for people who are a bit sensitive to "torture scenes". I could just feel Aelin's helplessness. She could not do anything against what was done to her. It just feels like a never-ending nightmare. Fenrys also lives his own nightmare. I just felt so bad for the two of them.
Even though we know that Aelin will be released, the wait is so painful and the moment she was released, she looked so broken. I just couldn't take it. I mean, we all know Aelin and how strong and full of sass she is. And yet, when she was running away and begging for her friends to let her out of this iron mask, she completely broke and I just broke with her too.
Rowan wants what is best for Aelin but he struggles to know how to be close to her again. She is a whole new person with everything that happened to her and she is scared of what everyone expects her to be. But Rowan was just perfection even though I felt like he was a bit erased in this book. 

I really liked how Sarah J. Maas grew Dorian's character throughout this story. His new found abilities made him quite interesting. I have to admit that he gave me a few scares here and there. She gave him a true depth. Unfortunately he also becomes mean and cold, which implies that his romance with Manon was a bit weird. I was rooting for them at the beginning but then it just turned cold. She gave him everything and he just turned it down. He used her and her body. Yes, it was interesting when he found this "dark side" of his and Manon was kind of helping him with it, kind of like with a protégé but still, it doesn't mean he has to be a d*ck all the time. 

I felt for Manon throughout this book. I was not a huge fan of hers when she was first introduced in the Throne of Glass series. And yet, I learned to love her and her Thirteen. Unfortunately this story doesn't end well for everyone. The Thirteen's deaths affected me so much. I felt so bad. Even worse than bad. I cried so much during this scene, I felt like I was never going to get through it. I had to put the book down to take a break. 

Many of the secondary characters became much more important than I would've thought at the beginning, especially Yrene (you'll understand once you read the book). I liked that the end was not just about Aelin because it would have been way too predictable. Chaol and Yrene were really cute together. It seemed like they drew their strengths from one another. 

I liked that Elide was a strong female character. However the way she handled things with Lorcan were a bit... too much. I mean, I totally understand that she was pissed off by his actions at the beginning. But even Aelin forgave him and Elide was not capable to do so. Worst, she kicked him down when he was already more down than down. He tried his best to make up for what he'd done (kind of like Chaol in Tower of Dawn). I really discovered a new face of Lorcan and I really fell for him. He tried his best through his actions to make things right. He offered his support and took an oath to Aelin. I almost liked him... alright, I think I actually really liked him in this book. 

Now let's talk about Aedion and Lysandra. I am not fully sure on what to say about the two of them. Aedion was such an as*hol*. Honestly he was abusive to Lysandra to the point he kicked her out when it was freezing cold, snowing and she was naked. Who on Earth does that?! I understand that he is pissed off at Aelin's plans but why would he take his frustration out on Lysandra who is only playing the part that has been asked of her? I would've never, ever forgiven him, no matter if we died tomorrow. I wanted to punch him so hard! Lysandra could do better and she should have had better. She shouldn't have ended with him. I hate that his character ended up being abusive. In the first books, he reminded me of a little boy who only wanted his cousin back. Now, I'm ashamed for him. 

The only thing I felt for for Aedion was how short his reunion with his father was. I was so frustrated for him. We'd been waiting for this reunion for ages and I was so disappointed that it ended so suddenly with Gavriel's death. Honestly, what was that?!

I was so happy to see more of Nesryn and Sartaq. I just loved them. I basically just love the whole Sartaq's second family. The ruks sounded so interesting. I felt like they were an equivalent to the Thirteen wyverns. 

In a really twisted way, I could admire Maeve. I said in a (really) twisted way. She is a really strong female character and she is ambitious.

This book was mostly psychological. Sarah J. Maas really focused on how the characters felt, all their hopelessness. Hopelessness is truly the main motto here. It is a really, really dark book, which is expected considering how Empire of Storms ended. You can feel the despair of every character throughout the final battle. They've been dragged from battles to battles and they are just over-exhausted.

Anyway, yes, this book is really long. No, it is not the best book. Yes, some scenes could have been better. But this book is the end of the Throne of Glass series and I will dearly miss all the characters. This book made me cry so much... to the point I got a headache. I cried for all my beloved fallen characters but also for the end of this amazing series. How I’m going to miss it!

Despite her hatred for people who worked for the former Adarlan king, she agrees on helping him. His mission is more than just finding help for himself. He also wants to gain the support of the Antica royal family.

Soon it looks like Valg are hiding in Antica and targeting healers. And the more questions are raised, the more mysteries appear.

The only negative point in this book is that I was dying to know what happened to all the other characters, especially Aelin. She was left in such a precarious position in the last book. I couldn't wait to know so I was rushing a bit through this one and I always kept Aelin in the back of my mind.

Unfortunately I didn't really enjoy this reading. It took me over two weeks to read it when usually I could read a book in less than 3 days. Everyone kept talking about this book on Bookstagram and how awesome it was. But I didn't feel like that at all. I thought it was slow and I didn't like any of the characters maybe because I couldn't identify to any. I mean they are outlaws so it may be normal to not really like them and yet, I felt frustrated because they were all selfish and I couldn't sense their feelings. Their relationships were so neutral that it bothered me. I think the only charcaters I kind of liked or felt like I could enjoy were Matthias, Nina and Inej. 

The universe created by Leigh Bardugo is really complex. I read 95% of the books in English and yet, I really struggled with this one. There are many information that are sometimes useless, such as the names of the bars or each business in Ketterdam. It also took me a while to understand the connection between the characters and to remember their names. Some moments I was not sure I understood what happened so I had to go back, re-read the scene before I could keep on reading, which annoyed me a bit. Let's say that this is not a book that you read to relax, haha!

I also didn't really like that it ended on a cliffhanger. When it is a series that I really enjoy, I don't really mind but here I want to read the next book just to know what will happen even though I didn't enjoy much the first book. 

However, the story was really original. It is not like anything I have ever read. After the first part, there are some actions that make us want to know more, which probably explains why I didn't give up on the book at the beginning. I also liked that the more the story keeps on going, the more secrets are revealed about each character and secrets the reader absolutely does not expect. I liked to read about their hopes because - even though they are thieves and thugs - they dream a better life than the one they have. 

Anyway, you should probably give it a try but be aware that the beginning is slow and some scenes are violent. As for me, I will try to give it a try to the second and final book of this duology :)

This book can be read as a standalone novel

Meet Racer Tate, a very well-known illegal car racer (I know, his name just fits perfectly). He is an adrenaline-junkie. Racing is his passion. He is the best. He knows it and everyone knows it. He expects to live his life fast and hard and alone. But it is not what Life itself planned for him. Not when a woman just scratched her car into his. When Racer sees his little "crasher" for the first time. He is hooked..

Lana is desperate. She needs a new F1 driver NOW. Their last driver just gave up in their race in Australia and their race team is just falling under. She needs a good driver but above all, she needs hope. Her father is sick and his last wish is to win F1 championship but his dream is going further and further. Lana has one mission: traveling wherever she has to in order to find the best driver. What she didn't expect was to crash her car (maybe more bump into) in a Cherry Mustang. As if she didn't already have enough. But when she sees the guy behind the wheel, she cannot help but feeling something. Something that she denied herself a long time ago. And she has no idea how bumpy her journey will get...

OH! MY! GOD! Oh my God, Oh my God! I was so impatient to get my hands on this book and now that I am done with it, I already want to re-read it just to enjoy the ride even more.

For those who know the Real series, you know that Racer Tate is Remington and Brooke's son. And I would like to say "like father, like son". Racer is intense, protective, possessive, cocky, arrogant, caring, charming, loyal... It could go on and on. I just fell in love with him. He barely catches glimpse of Lana and he is like "She is the woman I am going to marry". I mean, who couldn't possibly fall for that, right? But even behind all his cocky attitude, there is an ugly truth. A truth that may scare Lana away, a truth that may make him want to keep her away.

Lana Heyworth is a woman who had quite a tough start in life: her boyfriend died, her mother left them, his dad is sick and doesn't want any treatment, their race team and dream are falling apart and she is the baby girl of the family with three older brothers. I loved how loyal and fierce she is. She will stick to her family, no matter what. She will make her dad's dream her own to help him in his last days.

I loved their love story. It was steamy hot. You will probably need a cold shower after that. 

But even though I really liked this book, I felt like there was something missing. The story seemed rushed all the time. Lana didn't want to date Racer as long as he was their driver and I would've loved to see a bit more of chasing. I also would've liked to see their love grow and feel every bit of it. Their feelings were not enough developed, especially towards the end. Anyway, I think you got the point: the story could've gone more in-depth in the characters' past and feelings.

My favorite book in this series will definitely be Legend.

I heard so much of this series and I finally started it. Yay me! 

Let's talk first about this new world that Sarah J. Maas created. As always, Sarah J. Maas has a nice writing and I absolutely liked the storyline revolving around a world that is slowly dying because a king, so greedy with power, destroys everything that may be a threat to his throne. No one talks about magic to the point everyone forgot it ever existed. This world is violent and depressing. No one good lasts very long. Celaena knows about magic. She has already seen it. 

I really enjoyed the storyline because it was original. At least for me. I had never read a story where a young girl is a famous assassin and her only way out of the mines is to serve a king she hates. 

I just regretted that the story around the "demons" haunting the castle was not better explored. I felt slightly frustrated because it could've been better. Celaena took way too long to realize who was beyond the attacks even though it was obvious. However I was really surprised (in a good way) by the outcome between the Duke and Kaitlin. I was not expecting it at all. I cannot wait to read more about that in the next books. 

Personally, I didn't see the use of the love triangle between Dorian-Celaena-Chaol. Maybe I am a bit too old for that (oh nooo!). I mean there was obviously a hot chemistry between Dorian and Celaena but I didn't see anything between Chaol and Celaena. It also doesn't bring anything to the story. 

When she refused to be with Dorian at the end though, I really wanted to struggle her. He loves her, she likes him and nup, she doesn't want to go there. I mean, if you see something you want and this something is the prince who could possibly change everything, you go for it. You don't say "Nah, I want freedom more". You could still be free and in love with a prince. Okay, maybe it's my extremely sappy, cheesy, romantic side speaking but still...

Now about the characters:

I liked Celaena.  She is strong, fierce, proud, smart, loyal, brave... Everything you cannot possibly be in real life (haha!). Despite trying to prove the world she is a fearless assassin, we see glimpses of a past that still haunts her. She has flaws and vulnerability but she is afraid to show them. Even after working in the mines, she remains true to herself and she doesn't hesitate to help other people. 

Chaol... Now I'm a bit confused about this character. I don't know if I like him or not. I know he is supposed to be a withdrawn character, which explains why we probably didn't feel his chemistry with Celaena, and yet I couldn't really bring myself to like him. He plays hot and cold the whole time. He supposedly likes her but he is constantly waiting for her to try to murder them all. But maybe this opinion will change along the books of this series. 

I hated Dorian at first but as I reached the end of the book, I couldn't believe the Dorian from the beginning was the same Doriam from the end. It felt like they were two complete different characters. The first time we read about him, he is cold, spoiled, selfish and a real womanizer. In the middle, there is already a shift as we see he is truly trapped between what his heart wants and what his father wants him to be. He tries to protect Celaena the best he can. I felt sorry for him because his situation clearly is uneasy. Witnessing his growing love for Celaena, I just felt more in love with him. He is ready to do anything that is possible for Celaena. 

Having different POV at some point in this book offers the reader a glimpse of each character's feelings in some situation.

Anyway, if you like a bit of fantasy and a lot of adventures and actions, this book is for you! :)

Retrouvez la conclusion des Chroniques Lunaires ! Cinder se prépare à aller sur la Lune avec ses amis afin de détrôner Levanna et prendre le rôle de reine qui lui revient de droit. Mais pour cela, il lui faudra d'abord trouver de l'aide parmi les lunaires afin de monter sa révolution. Une tâche qui pourrait s'avérer plus compliquée qu'elle ne l'avait prévu ! 

Winter est connue parmi les lunaires pour son grand cœur et sa beauté sans pareil, malgré les cicatrices infligées par sa belle-mère. Une belle-mère qu'elle méprise de toute son âme. A cause du mal lunaire qui la tourmente, tout le monde n'a de cesse de la croire faible et folle. Pourtant, elle a plus d'une carte en main et avec l'aide de son ami et garde royal, Jacin, elle se sent prête à faire partie d'un plan qui la dépasse pour libérer la Lune du joug de sa belle-mère. 

Meurtres, manipulation, enlèvement, torture... Nos amis vont avoir encore du pain sur la planche avant de pouvoir débarrasser la Lune de Levanna !

Ça y est ! La lecture de cette série est finie et quelle belle fin ! Ce tome est le meilleur de la série je trouve. Avez-vous déjà eu ce sentiment de vouloir finir une série le plus rapidement possible parce que vous êtes impatient(e)s de connaître la fin et d'un autre côté, vous voulez prendre votre temps parce que vous ne voulez pas mettre fin à cette lecture? C'est exactement ce sentiment que j'ai eu. Bon après, il y avait près de 1000 pages, donc de quoi satisfaire notre curiosité tout de même. Ça peut paraître long, mais par d'autre côté, c'était trop court parce que je n'avais de cesse d'en vouloir plus.

Ce tome va vous emmener à travers toutes les émotions : le suspens, la joie, la tristesse, la peur... Accrochez-vous parce que c'est une réelle montagne russe !

J'ai beaucoup apprécié les personnages, même si j'ai encore beaucoup de mal avec l'histoire entre Thorne et Cress. Tous les personnages ont bien grandi et prennent leurs responsabilités, même si cela veut dire les mener à la mort. Chaque personnage a un rôle précis dans le renversement de Levanna, un réel esprit d'équipe. 

De la petite cyborg terrestre qui a du mal à trouver sa place, Cinder est prête à prendre ses responsabilités en tant que reine, même si elle n'est pas sûre d'elle-même et de ses décisions. Mais surtout, elle n'a jamais voulu être reine. Heureusement qu'à travers toutes ces épreuves, Kaito est là pour la soutenir. L'évolution de leur relation depuis le premier tome est vraiment flagrante et j'en suis bien contente ! J'étais à la limite de la frustration dans le premier tome, mais là, j'ai été plus que servie. Kai, au même titre que Cinder, est prêt à se sacrifier (sous-entendu à se marier avec Levanna) afin de sauver la Terre de la létumose. 

Scarlet et Loup... alors ces deux-là restent mon couple préféré. Ils ont tout connu et ils reviennent de loin, mais ils sont plus forts que jamais ! L'amour qu'on peut ressentir entre les deux personnages m'a mis des étoiles dans les yeux. Mais peu importe ce qui se dresse sur leur chemin, ils sont bien décidés à rester ensemble, coûte que coûte. 

Comme dit précédemment, le couple Thorne-Cress, j'ai toujours du mal. J'aime beaucoup Thorne quand il est seul car il est drôle et il sait détendre l'atmosphère. Mais avec Cress, je ne l'apprécie pas parce que j'ai l'impression qu'il ne la respecte pas. Je ne ressens aucune alchimie entre les deux. J'ai préféré Cress dans ce tome parce qu'elle prend enfin des risques et elle ne reste plus cachée derrière Thorne. 

Nouveau couple dans cette série : Jacin-Winter. Je regrette que leur relation n'ait pas pu être plus développée. Nous aurions pu avoir un nouveau couple à l'image de Scarlet-Loup, mais non. Donc je dois l'avouer, j'ai de nouveau été très frustrée. On voit l'amour entre les deux personnages, mais il ne se passe rien (argh !). J'aimais tellement que Jacin soit capable de voir au-delà du mal lunaire qui affecte Winter. Winter est un personnage d'une extrême intelligence, même si par le fait de sa maladie, elle ne parvient pas à se faire comprendre de tous. Je détestais le Jacin que j'avais vu dans le tome centré sur Cress. Mais ici, on ne peut dénier qu'il est complètement dévoué à Winter et qu'il ferait n'importe quoi pour elle. Dans sa tête, elle reste une princesse, même si elle est chassée du palais, et il ne peut déclarer son amour, malgré les nombreuses tentatives de Winter pour le faire craquer. 

Comment finir cette chronique sans parler d'Iko? C'est LE personnage-phare qui a su détendre et faire rire tout au long de cette série. Mais dans ce tome, on voit aussi une Iko près à défendre ceux qu'elle considère comme ses amis. 

Marissa Meyer a su prendre le temps de développer chacun des personnages à travers toute la série. J'ai adoré ce monde qu'elle a créé. Elle est partie de contes de fée connus pour créer son monde à elle. Un monde fantastique avec des personnages sortis d'un conte par moment presque cauchemardesque. J'ai aussi aimé le fait qu'elle aborde des sujets qui nous touchent encore aujourd'hui, tels que le racisme dont font preuve les humains envers les cyborgs, où le pouvoir ressenti par les dictateurs qui vont les pousser à aller toujours plus loin dans leur folie... 

Cette série a eu des hauts et des bas. J'avoue que même si les tomes de Cinder et Cress étaient un peu moyen pour moi, j'ai adoré les tomes de Scarlet et Winter. Je maintiens que c'est une série qu'il faut lire impérativement ! 

Maintenant place à Stars Above. Un dernier tome de la saga des Chroniques Lunaires qui contient l'épilogue de cette série.
