Visions of Heat - Psy-Changelings #2 - Nalini Singh

Sum up: (Goodreads)
Used to cold silence, Faith NightStar is suddenly being tormented by dark visions of blood and murder. A bad sign for anyone, but worse for Faith, an F-Psy with the highly sought after ability to predict the future. Then the visions show her something even more dangerous - aching need...exquisite pleasure. But so powerful is her sight, so fragile the state of her mind, that the very emotions she yearns to embrace could be the end of her.

Changeling Vaughn D'Angelo can take the form of either man or jaguar, but it is his animal side that is overwhelmingly drawn to Faith. The jaguar's instinct is to claim this woman it finds so utterly fascinating and the man has no argument. But while Vaughn craves sensation and hungers to pleasure Faith in every way, desire is a danger that could snap the last threads of her sanity. And there are Psy who need Faith's sight for their own purposes. They must keep her silenced - and keep her from Vaughn.

Plot:
F-Psys can foresee the future. Because of their skill, F-Psys became more fragile and their interaction with the world had to be limited.

Faith NightStar is the best F-Psy of her generation. Every vision she has ever had became true. She is worth millions of dollars, if not billions. During one of her visions, Faith sees her sister's death, a sister that she rarely saw. But what disturbs her the most is that she only ever had visions about the economics trend and never about violence or murders. Now Faith is looking for answers but answers that cannot be provided by anyone on the PsyNet. She only knows one person what cut all ties from the PsyNet: Sasha Duncan.

One night, Faith decides to leave the facility she was living in. Her main objective is to seek help but she never suspected she would find a jaguar on her path.

Vaughn is one of Lucas' Sentinels and he is very close to his jaguar. When he was just a child, his parents gave him and his sister up. His sister died in his arms. He later heard his father killed his mother before committing suicide. He only lives for the Darkriver pack. They let him be part of their pack even though he is a jaguar. But when a red-hair woman comes along and forces him to reevaluate everything he ever fought for, he will stop at nothing to prove his loyalty.

Changelings only know physical contacts. It is what anchors them, they need it as much as they need air to breathe. But having a soft spot for a Psy who has been secluded from everyone and has never been touched will be rough on his panther. Fortunately, the darkness following Faith and invading her visions may dislike his touch even more than Faith. And Vaughn will stop at nothing to prove Faith that he is the only man for her...

Opinion:
Nalini Singh is one of my favorite writer ever! Everything she writes is amazing! She built a whole new world with this series and if the first book was just the settlement, we now know a bit more about this new world where Changelings, Psys and humans live in "harmony" (at least, that is what we thought).

This story is centered around the story of Vaughn - one of the Darkriver's Sentinels - and Faith - a F-Psy - who lived secluded from everyone since she was 3. The first time they met was explosive. They could not deny their feelings and their chemistry and trust me, I also wanted to feel Vaughn's touch.

"Because just looking at you gives me the most extreme pleasure I've ever felt."

"Christ, baby, tie me up before you start talking like that.”

I felt like this book took the reader more in-depth of what is going on in the Psy world. We see more politics with the High Counsel debating on the successor of Santano Enrique.
We also meet the NetMind for the first time. I liked the way he communicated with Faith through images and emotions. It is perceived as a human, a teenager who suffers from the Silence protocol. He tries to protect all the E-Psys who still are on the PsyNet. I sometimes struggled to fully comprehend the roles of the NetMind and DarkMind because it is highly complex to visualize what it is exactly.

For sure, the next books will bring even more actions.

Excerpts:

“Sleep Red, I've got you."

"Why don’t you smile more?” She liked his smile, liked seeing such uncomplicated happiness on his face.

“Never had much to smile about.”
Looking into that smile, Faith gave up her last hazy dream of somehow returning to the only world she’d ever known. “I’m never going back.”
The smile faded and something darker whispered into his eyes, something wild and savagely possessive. “Good. Because I wasn’t planning on letting you go."

Slave to Sensation - Psy-Changeling #1 - Nalini Singh

Sum up: (Goodreads)
In a world that denies emotions, where the ruling Psy punish any sign of desire, Sascha Duncan must conceal the feelings that brand her as flawed. To reveal them would be to sentence herself to the horror of "rehabilitation" - the complete psychic erasure of everything she ever was...

Both human and animal, Lucas Hunter is a changeling hungry for the very sensations the Psy disdain. After centuries of uneasy coexistence, these two races are now on the verge of war over the brutal murders of several changeling women. Lucas is determined to find the Psy killer who butchered his packmate, and Sascha is his ticket into their closely guarded society. But he soon discovers that this ice-cold Psy is very capable of passion - and that the animal in him is fascinated by her. Caught between their conflicting worlds, Lucas and Sascha must remain bound to their identities - or sacrifice everything for a taste of darkest temptation.

Slave to Sensation - Psy-Changelings #1 - Nalini Singh

Some scenes contain sexual and violent contents that may offend sensibilities of readers.

Plot:
Forget everything that you know about the world! The world is divided in three races: Psy, changelings and humans. In 1969, to reduce violence and criminality the Psy Council decided to instigate a program called Silence for all the Psy so they would not feel and understand what rage is. But ten years later, they decided to improve it and Psy children were conditioned to feel nothing.

The three species have their own rules and codes. Psy are not to feel any kind of emotions or they would be considered broken and they would be sent for reconditioning. Their brains are literally connected together through a network. They feed from each other mental states and privacy is forbidden. Life is easy for them: you have what is useful and what is not. It is unnecessary to know what chocolate taste like because it is of no use for their organism.
Changelings are organized in Packs. There is the Alpha who protects and is devoted to his Pack, the Sentinels who also swore to protect the Pack, the Healer and the submissive. Nothing is more sacred than the mating bond and the relations between members of a Pack.

This is in this context that Sasha Duncan - Cardinal Psy - and Lucas Hunter - Darkriver's alpha - meet. Their only relation is as business partners for a building project and yet, when they see each other for the first meet, they cannot help feeling drawn toward each other. Sasha has always known that she was special. She is a Cardinal, which means she is the elite of Psy and yet, she has no real skill. But the worst is that she wants to do things a Psy should not do, such as laugh or tease. She knows it: she is broken. She has been trying to hide it but the longer she remains among the High Counsel and her mother, the more she takes the risk of being sent to reconditioning.
But along her problems, the High Counsel asks her to collect as much information about the Changelings as she can.

But what she does not know is that Lucas also wants to collect information from Sasha. 7 Changelings women have been found tortured and a particular scent left on the crime scene led them to think a Psy could be behind these attacks. Lucas wants closer to Sasha to find out what she knows about this sordid affair.

He never intended to actually fall for the broken Psy. He never thought that getting close to her would lead him to develop feelings. When Sasha hears about the murders that happened in the Changelings community, she decides to help the Pack even if it means that she has to take the risks of being discovered by the High Counsel.

Opinion:
First, let me tell you. I know it can be scary to see how many books there are in this series (over twenty) but it is such an amazing series, you have to read it!

Now, that being said, this book was incredible. Nalini Singh brought a whole new world to life. It is unique, original and complex. At first, it can be sightly difficult to understand but the longer you read, the easier it becomes to read about this world.

Now, about the story and the characters: I loved the story between Sasha and Lucas. Some emotions are new for both of them and they struggle to understand fully what they are feeling - Sasha more than anyone. As they discover their new feelings, the reader is thrown into a first crush: the confusion of emotions, the fear of falling in love, the discovery of a new culture that is completely different from what we know...

I loved the chemistry between Sasha and Lucas. Sasha is lost. She is a Cardinal Psy and yet, she has no real skills. She thinks she has no value. She struggles to understand what emotions are and how to deal with them. She is novice in relationships but when Lucas shows her how to love, she will love fully and she will finally be able to understand where she comes from and her skills.

Lucas is THE alpha male. He has seen his whole family slaughtered and he had been tortured when he was just a child. When he meets Sasha, he also struggles to understand what he feels toward her. He should not feel anything for a Psy, a person who has no feelings.

I feel like this book is just perfection in a way.

Excerpts:
“Sometimes I remember that I can't always protect those I love." Under his fingers, her hair was soft and silky.
She didn't try to tell him that he wasn't God, that he couldn't protect everyone. He knew that.
But knowing and believing were two different things. What she did say succeeded in stopping his heart. "I wish you'd love me."
"Why?"
"Because then maybe you could protect me, too" haunting sorrow whispered through her tone.

“An hour of your life is worth more than a thousand people to me.”

His kiss held his heart. It broke hers.

Silver Bastard - Joanna Wylde

Some scenes contain sexual and violent contents that may offend sensibilities of readers.

Plot:

Note beforehand: I suggest you to read Reapers MC before reading Silver Bastard.

We already had glimpses of Puck in the Reapers MC series. He is Painter's best friend since they did time together. He was just released from prison with Painter and their MC organized a huge party at one of the Longneck's (another MC) hang-around. After fourteen months behind bars, Puck needs some release and this is when Becca Jones caught his eyes. She is beautiful and he felt like it is love (or at least lust) at first sight. One thing to know: when Pucks wants something or someone, he will stop at nothing to have it or her.
Teeny - the hang-around who threw the party - noticed that Puck saw Becca. As she is his step-daughter, he feels like he has to control her. He forces her to do whatever would please Puck. Puck - oblivious to what is happening - just wants to have a good time with this woman. But everything does not go as planned.
The next morning, he finds out that Becca is actually 16 and she is pimped out by her step-father to every MC members. Puck loses it and he beats Teeny up. He orders Becca to take some of her stuff and to leave with him.

"Meeting you was the best thing that ever happened to me, Puck. Things were fucked up and wrong, but you saved my life."

Now five years later, Becca has her life back in control. She is studying to be a hairdresser and she works at a diner. Puck and Becca live in the same town but they almost never see each other.
Puck always had a special place in Becca's heart. He brought her to a safe place where she could figure out what she wanted to do and who she wanted to become. But she is also scared of her feelings for him.
Puck always felt guilty for what happened that night when he was released from prison. He does not regret what happened that night as it remains for him one of the best nights of his life.

Some events will bring them back together and this time, there is no turning back...

Opinion:
Incredible how I love all the series by Joanna Wylde. This woman is truly gifted!

I was always curious about Puck's story and I was happy when he found Becca. She is a fierce girl who grew to a beautiful woman. Despite everything that happened to her, she remained pure. She never let it destroy her and she never wallowed in self-pity.

Someday I’d be classy if it killed me—probably not today, though.
She works hard and nothing will come between her and her future. Well, unless Puck stands on her way.

Puck... Ah, Puck! I fell in love with him. I liked that we had his POV and Becca's. He feels guilty for having a great moment with Becca five years ago when she was actually constrained to have sex with him. He always watched her from far away but he could not deny he has a soft spot for her.

One thing is for sure, when he finally decides to claim Becca, there is nothing she can do to resist it. I know, the feminist in me cringes but Becca actually wants to be loved by Puck but she refuses to admit it.

“We’ve been in a relationship for five years now,” Puck said, his voice hard. “It wasn’t normal, it wasn’t exclusive . . . Hell, I don’t know what the fuck it was, but we both know that’s the truth. Whatever’s between us, it’s been there since the first night we met.”

The chemistry between the two of them is undeniable. Every time they meet, it is explosive! It has been building for five years and now it is just off-charts.

There are a lot of things happening in this book: fights, destruction, kidnapping, murders... Wow! It was a real roller-coaster.
It just got on my nerves that Becca let her mother manipulates her so easily. Every time she calls, Becca is running to her like a puppy when her mother did not hesitate to sell her to men when she was barely a child. Every time Puck called her on her s***, she said something very hurtful.

I really cannot wait to read the second book. I read that Joanna Wylde won't do a MC series for the Silver Valley series. It will only focus on categories of people living there. The way it finishes, I just want to know what will happen!

Tout d'abord, l'histoire me faisait étrangement penser à Twilight.

Vampire Diaries - Final episode season 8

Who watched the final episode of the final season of Vampire Diaries and cried rivers? I did.

/!\ SPOILERS ALERT /!\

I have to admit that after season 5 it became harder for me to catch up with every episode because the intrigue did not appeal to me anymore.
The characters did not always evolve: Damon got sloppy always mourning for Elena, Stefan reminded me of a puppy that would repeatedly get kicked by his brother, the whole story seemed to continuously be centered around Elena, the new villains were not truly villains anymore, the humanities being swtiched-on and off... If you followed the TV series, you probably understand what I mean.

When I learned that season 8 would be the final season, I knew I had to catch up. I basically grew up with this TV series through high school and more. I got attached to the characters over time. So basically, I watched season 7 and 8 in a matter of a week. I liked the beginning of seasons 7 and 8 but then it would always go back to things scenarists had already done. For me it was a big NO.
At least, season 8 was slightly more interesting than season 7 with the intervention of the sirens and the comeback of previous characters.

Characters and couples:
I was fond of some characters and couples that got together these last two seasons. I know that many people disliked Stefan and Caroline together. But I really liked them together. For me it was meant to be. I felt like the character of Caroline was the only one who actually evolved throughout the TV series. She was the brat cheerleader who wanted to be the most popular of high school. Now she is a mom and a soon-to-be wife. She grew up so much!

Damon with Elena... that's another story! He lost his interest when he got (apparently) madly in love with her. Everything revolved around her and it is just like he stopped thinking on his own. Remember when he was the big villain in season 1? Yup, completely forgot that he could be mean and interesting.

Bonnie and Enzo... I just fell in love with them over and over again with every episode. Enzo was such an a** in the previous seasons. Who could have known that he had a deep romantic soul? Bonnie became stronger with him and I was so happy that she finally got the chance to taste some happiness after everything she went through.

The ending:
So if you watched the final episode, you know that Stefan dies, leaving his new bride by herself. Jeez! I was so sad for Caroline. Stefan was reunited with Lexie. I couldn't help but squeal when I saw her. I missed her so much! Anyway, Caroline went through so much and now, she lost her love. She is also the last remaining vampire in Mystic Falls. It makes me sad to think that she will watch all of her friends grow old and die, including her children. At least the opening with Klaus' letter cheered me up a bit.

Bonnie is now traveling the world with Enzo whispering in her ear. She cannot hear him but he is watching over her. This broke me. I mean, Stefan killed him. He killed the only true love of Bonnie. She also went through so much in eight seasons and she only got a half happy ending. She deserved so much more. I mean, she looked happy but I wanted her to be happy with Enzo.

Elena and Damon are now finally back together and they are both humans. They are free to live the lives they want and Elena becomes a nurse. At the really end of the episode, Elena and Damon are reunited with their relatives. Elena joins her family and her aunt Jenna. Damon goes back to his house where Stefan is waiting for him. The final "Hello, brother" was just the perfect way to end this season and this series. It started like that and it finishes the same way. It was just perfection!

Let's not forget all the previous characters who come back: Jenna, Vicki, Tyler, Jo, Elena's parents, John, Kai, Katherine, Jeremy... I was so glad the scenarists managed to gather all the previous characters for this final episode. It made it just perfect!

What did you think of this final episode?
